Dear Members of the SWAB

                    Many thanks for the invitation for the SWAB awards.

                    I wish I was able to fulfill a long-pending visit to what is famously known as the garden city, a place that has built a reputation for producing fine cricketers on and off the field and genuine sportspersons like Arvind Savur, Prakash Padukone, Pankaj Advani just to name a few.

                    I am sure the members of the SWAB, past and present --- including my former colleague P R Viswanathan, would be looking forward to the event, which I understand a large number of the sports fraternity has made it a point to grace and make it very memorable.

                   Best wishes from me representing the Sports Jounalists Federation of India and the Sports Journalists Association of Mumbai.

                   I will not forget the SWAB's contribution that went towards the medical expenses of Pradeep Vijayakar.

                  Have a wonderful awards function which not only bring happiness to the winners, but also to the committee that has chosen the sportspersons for the awards.

                  I close this small message by congratulating the SWAB, Garud in particular for creating team-bonding opportunities for the members.

Guwahati, March 21 (IANS) Amit Choudhary’s 54-ball unbeaten 85 with 12 fours and one six and off-spinner Rakesh Thapliyal’s splendid 6 for 8 in 3.1 overs helped North Zone notch a 92-run win over East Zone in the SJFI’s Inter-Zonal JK Bose Twenty20 tournament here Wednesday.

In another match, South Zone, chasing a high target of 175, scored an eight-wicket win over West Zone, with skipper Satish Viswanathan making a fine 50-ball 64 with 11 fours and one six.

North Zone 170 for 3 in 20 overs (Amit Choudhary 85 not out) beat East Zone 78 (Rakesh Thapliyal 6 for 8) by 92 runs.

ROLE OF MEDIA IN PROMOTING SPORTS

Mr. Suresh Kalmadi, the organising committee chairman of the 10th Commonwealth Games held at New Delhi 15 months ago continues to cool his heels in Tihar Jail. Of course he has the company of some bureaucrats also in the jail. The Commonwealth Games were a grand success as far as the sports was concerned. The Indian athletes won as many as 100 medals which was a great record in the history of the nation's sport. But the Games were marred by the financials scandals. Few athletes tested positive in the anti dope tests. But the financial irregularities by the organising committee exposed the corrupt practices which has been spread like cancer in the sports federations and associations.

I do not like to start my today's subject with Mr. Suresh Kalmadi or the negative aspects of the sports. With my experience of more than three decades in the field of sports journalism i am convinced that the politics and sports are the both sides of a same coin. If Kalmadi is behind bars it is because the media brought to light the irregularities of the CWG. Nothing was in order till the CWG started. Thanks to media again the preparations for the CWG were taken up on a war foot and the events were held as per the schedule.

Today the media is in a 'love and hate' situation in the minds of the people. Just think what whould have happened without the media in this world. With all the negative approach or actions by some sections of the media, it has been proved on and again that the 'Pen is mightier than the sword'. Of course the media has played a great role in promoting sports and sports persons.

I would like to present a wonderful example here. I would be very happy if somebody here knows about Mr. Benu Balu Bhaat of Gadag. He must be around 80 now and still going strong with his hockey stick. His love for hockey was amazing. He was an extra ordinary player for the railways. He could have represented India in the 1964 Olympic Games if he had given seven thousand rupees to some officials. He had no money and he could not pay. And he missed the chance to play for the country. But he never regretted for that. He just enjoyed the game.

After his retirement he had to support his family of ten children. He worked as a watchman in a petrol bunk. But his love for hockey had not diminished a bit. His hand itched when he saw boys playing hockey. He volunteered himself to coach them. He belonged to the Settlement area and the Britisher's gift to the Settlers was hockey. One day my good friend Munna Guledgudda, a cricket lover, coach (he was instrumental in the growth of Sunil Joshi who became a test cricketer) introduced me to Benu Balu Bhaat. He narrated his hockey story wearing the Indian Railways team blazer. He expressed his intension to coach the youngsters even in that old age.

I was just waiting for an opportunity to help him. I had written a detailed article about him in Prajavani and Deccan Herald. When the state cabinet meeting was held in Gadag, I forced the then sports minister Mr. S.S. Mallikarjun and Mr. A J Anandan, Director of Youth Services and Sports to meet Benu Balu Bhaat. Both were very much impressed by his achievements. The minister immediately agreed to appoint him as a coach at the Gadag stadium to coach the youngsters. It was really a great triumh for me and the media. I just felt so happy that my reports helped a sportsman.

There are so many examples like this. The media have always highlighted sporting achievements in a great fashion. Apart from the live coverage of the matches, the media focused on the life stories of the sportsmen and women. Many of our sportsmen and women have come from a very poor background. Sports showed them the way of life. They came to sports hoping to get a job. The media reports helped them in this regard.

Any sportsman or woman needs to climb the ladder to reach the highest level. There is no shortcut for success in sports. Though there is politics, nepotism, corruption in the selection process no body can stop the genuinely talented athlete. Here the media plays a very important role. The media always keeps an eye on the selectors and other office bearers of the federation or association. Though there are few golmals nobody can get away with utter nonsense. What all did not happen during CWG but thanks to the culprits were finally booked and the enquiry is going on.

The media does the job of spotting the talent and encouraging the same to develop. Today the cricket is so popular all over the country thanks to print and electronic media. But at the same time cricket is blamed for the downfall of other sports in the country. It is not the case as it is generally visualised. That is a seperate story and subject which is not relevent here. But i can tell you with authority that media has played a very important role in the promotion of sports in our country.

A sports reporter is a complete journalist. He covers every aspect of a sportsman. He writes about the personality of the athlete, his growth into the sports field, his economic status, his positive personal lifelike marriage, children, his social activities and finally the obituary when the sportsman dies. The true stories of the champions are always a great motivation to the youngsters. Media kindles the light of hope in the mind of all youngsters who aspire to become successful sports persons.

Here i have to tell you about the importance of the physical education teachers in promoting sports in coordination with the media. There was a time when the PE teachers were considered as friends, philosophers and guides by those who aspired to excel in sports. Be a tiny school or the biggest educational institution in town, the relationship between sport-loving students and the PT masters was unique in several respects.

If these teachers were solely responsible for the boys and girls spending their evenings from Monday to Friday in a most purposeful fashion, then the seniors would look after the needs of the boys and girls during the weekend. They taught them not only the finer aspect of chosen games but aslo explained them the value of discipline, dedication and most other adorable qualities that go to make the aspirants 'complete human beings'.

Unfortunately, sport, thereby the physical education, has been pushed to the back seat as parents and many an educational institution chose to concentrate more on studies in an effort to produce academically brilliant men and women. This 'all studies no sport' situation is being condemned by sociologists and sensible thinkers of the society. Yet things have not moved in the desired direction as far as sport-lovers and sports-promoters are concerned.

Yet it is heartening to note that several universities in our country are still producing physical education teachers through some well-conceived programmes. Here one must appreciate those young men and women who join this course so as to serve the society in a telling manner. One of the items in the well-conceived programme is sports journalism. Just imagine a physical education teacher who possesses a huge list of promising young talents in various disciplines of sport in his/her school/college. How will he project these talents through the media? Sport Journalism, as a subject, would certainly help him/her.

Once he/she complete the physical education course wilth journalism as one of the subjects, he/she wouild be working in a school or college with greater confidence. The PE teacher can thake classes regularly and highlight the importance of sporting acitivities for the professional college students. He can narrate the great stories of the sports heroes in Olympics, Asian Games and world cup events. Only the Champions will motivate the younger generation. But unfortunately the PE teachers have been reduced to whistle blowers. It is time for them to change now.

The well equipped PE teacher will be in a commendable position of preparing reports of his students (sports) and the institution and release them as exaustive press releases. He can write profiles on boys and girls who excel at various levels. These writing excercises do help the aspirants and their educational institutions as the media will only be delighted to make the most of these well-furnished details with suitable photographs.

Here the PE students and their teachers must understand the situation that prevails in media. Gone are the days when newspapers insisted their sports reporters to concentrate on sports acitivities in schools and colleges. Now sports reporters, in general , want to turn global overnight. Activities happening in and around them are left to the 'desk man' and the press releases. If a press release is brief, it will, naturally, get only a brief mention in the newspaper. If it contains more details that too prepared with professional zeal, the desk man gets impressed. To attain this, PE students must be well versed in sports journalism. To get things done in our and our ward's favour, we must understand the needs, style and scope of the media. Hence, it is time sports journalism gets into the halls where the nuances of Physical Education are being taught. Let's prepare our future PE Masters through a fool-proof system. No social activity is complete without well-equipped PE teachers.

World Billiards champion Pankaj Advani presented trophy to 9 ball pool tournament winner Roshan Thyagarajan and Satish B(runner up) organised by SWAB in KBA on Wednesday.in Bangalore,Also seen President KBA M C Uthappa.

Roshan Thyagarajan of Deccan Herald overpowered B Satish of Deccan Chronicle 2-0 to emerge triumphant in the inaugural SWAB-KSBA 9-ball pool tournament at the KSBA Hall on Wednesday.

Roshan had edged out Deepak Vikraman 2-1 in an all-Deccan Herald semifinal earlier in the day, while Satish was too strong for R Sathish Paul of Bangalore Mirror in the other semifinal, scoring a 2-0 victory.

Prizes were given away by World Billiards champion Pankaj Advani, KSBA president MC Uthappa and BSFI secretary S Balasubramaniam.

Sathish Paul Claimed Title

Bangalore: In a closely contested final, Sathish Paul of Bangalore Mirror claimed the inaugural KSTBA-SWAB Tenpin Bowling title besting Maxin Mathhew of Deccan Chronicle by 146-134 pins at the Amoeba bowling alley on Friday.

In the semi-finals, Maxin defeated Sidney Kiran of Deccan Herald by whopping 176-85 pins and also ensured the award for the highest pinfall in a single game was his for the taking, while Sathish defeated Abhishek Baadkar of DC 160-139.

With seven players in the fray to claim the award for the most strikes (All having a double to their name), Sathish pocketed the award breading the dead-lock with a double in the final too.

Earlier, Maxin was on a roll accounting for top seed Roshan Thyagarajan in the quarter-finals, with a splendid display of nerves and claiming spares at crucial junctures to win with a pinfall score of 121-105.

Roshan Thyagarajan stormed into the quarter-finals

Roshan Thyagarajan of Deccan Herald stormed into the quarter-finals of the KSTBA-SWAB Tenpin Bowling Tournament with scores of 144 and 150 on the opening day of the two-day event at Amoeba on Thursday.

Off the 23 participants, all sports scribes and lensmen, Roshan scored 144 to take the top ranking in the first round followed by Sathish Paul and Abhishek Badkaar.

In the round of 16, Roshan was in his elements, picking a double strike and ticking off spares with ease to notch 150.

Amongst the women, Nandini of DNA hit a purple patch outsing Satish V to reach the last eight, with the help of four strikes.

In the quarters, Roshan will take on Maxine of Deccan Chronicle, Sathish will clash with Md. Nooman, A Badkaar faces colleague Nandini and Garud takes on Sydney Kiran.

"ಪಿ.ಆರ್.ವಿ" ಮೊಗದಲ್ಲಿ ಮಂದಹಾಸ

ಸುಮಾರು ಒಂದು ತಾಸು ಎದ್ದು ಕುಳಿತು ಮಾತನಾಡಿದರು ನಮ್ಮ "ಸ್ವ್ಯಾಬ್" ಹಿರಿಯ ಸದಸ್ಯರೂ ಆಗಿರುವ ಅನುಭವಿ ಕ್ರೀಡಾ ವರದಿಗಾರ "ಪಿ.ಆರ್.ವಿ" (ಪಿ.ಆರ್. ವಿಶ್ವನಾಥ್). ಈ ನಡುವೆ ಅವರ ಹೆಂಡತಿ ಮಾತನಾಡಿ ಹಾಸ್ಯಕ್ಕೆ ಎನ್ನುವಂತೆ ಹೇಳಿದರು "ಎರಡು ನಿಮಿಷ ಎದ್ದು ಕೂರಿಸಿದರೆ ಮಲಗುತ್ತೇನೆ ಎಂದು ಹೇಳುತ್ತೀರಾ. ಇವತ್ತು ಎಷ್ಟೊಂದು ಹೊತ್ತು ಎದ್ದು ಕುಳಿತುಕೊಂಡಿರಿ?" ಎಂದು. ಆಗ ಪಿ.ಆರ್.ವಿ ಮೊಗದ ತುಂಬಾ ಮಂದಹಾಸವು ಅಂದದಿಂದ ಅರಳಿತು. "ಇಂಥ ಪರಿಸ್ಥಿತಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಗೆಳೆಯರು ಬಂದು ಮಾತನಾಡಿದರೆ ಸಂತಸವಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಸೈಕಾಲಾಜಿಕಲ್ ಆಗಿ ಎನರ್ಜಿ ಸಿಕ್ಕಂತೆ ಆಗುತ್ತದೆ" ಎಂದು ಹೇಳಿ ನಕ್ಕರು.

ಹೌದು; ಸ್ವಾಬ್ ಪರವಾಗಿ ಸಣ್ಣದೊಂದೊ ನೆರವು (25,000 ರೂಪಾಯಿ ಚೆಕ್) ನೀಡುವ ಉದ್ದೇಶದಿಂದ "ಪಿ.ಆರ್.ವಿ" ಮನೆಗೆ ಹೋಗಿದ್ದಾಗ ಅವರಿಗೆ ಎಲ್ಲಿಲ್ಲದ ಸಂತಸ. ಎದ್ದು ಕೂರಿಸು ಎಂದು ತಮ್ಮ ಪತ್ನಿಗೆ ಹೇಳಿದರು. ಉತ್ಸಾಹದಿಂದ ಎದ್ದು ಕುಳಿತ ಅವರು ಸ್ವ್ಯಾಬ್ ಪರವಾಗಿ ನೆರವಿನ ಚೆಕ್ ನೀಡಲು ಬಂದಿದ್ದ "ಪ್ರಜಾವಾಣಿ" ಸಹ ಸಂಪಾದಕರಾದ ಗೋಪಾಲಕೃಷ್ಣ ಹೆಗಡೆ, "ಬೆಂಗಳೂರು ಮಿರರ್" ಪತ್ರಿಕೆಯ ಬೆಂಗಳೂರು ಆವೃತ್ತಿಯ ಕ್ರೀಡಾ ವಿಭಾಗದ ಮುಖ್ಯಸ್ಥ ಸತೀಶ್ ಪಾಲ್ ಹಾಗೂ "ಸ್ವ್ಯಾಬ್" ಕಾರ್ಯದರ್ಶಿ ಡಿ.ವಿ.ಗರುಡ ಅವರ ಕುಶಲೋಪರಿ ವಿಚಾರಿಸಿದರು.


"ಮೊದಲು ತಿಂಡಿ ತಗೊಳ್ಳಿ. ನಾನು ಬೇಗನೇ ತಿಂಡಿ ತಿಂದಾಗಿದೆ. ವೈದ್ಯರು ಹೇಳಿದಂತೆ ತಿಂಡಿ-ಊಟ ಎಲ್ಲವೂ ಸರಿಯಾದ ಸಮಯಕ್ಕೆ ತೆಗೆದುಕೊಳ್ಳಬೇಕಲ್ಲಾ!" ಎಂದು ಮತ್ತೆ ಮುಖ ಅರಳಿಸಿ ನಕ್ಕರು.

ಸ್ವ್ಯಾಬ್ ನೀಡಿದ ಆರ್ಥಿಕ ನೆರವಿಗೆ ಕೃತಜ್ಞತೆ ಸಲ್ಲಿಸಿದ ಅವರು "ಈ ನೆಪದಲ್ಲಿ ನೀವೆಲ್ಲಾ ಬಂದಿರಲ್ಲಾ ಅದೇ ದೊಡ್ಡ ಸಂತಸ. ಹೀಗೆ ಗೆಳೆಯರು ಬರುತ್ತಿದ್ದರೆ ನನಗೂ ಎನರ್ಜಿ ಬಂದಹಾಗಿ ಆಗುತ್ತದೆ" ಎಂದು ಹೇಳಿದರು.

ಹಾಗೆ ಸಾಕಷ್ಟು ಹೊತ್ತು ಮಾತನಾಡಿದ ಅವರು ಬೆಂಗಳೂರಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಹಿಂದೆ ಕ್ರೀಡಾ ವರದಿಗಾರ ನಡುವೆ ಇದ್ದ ಪರಿವಾರದಂಥ ವಾತಾವರಣವನ್ನು ಸ್ಮರಿಸಿದರು. ಜಗಳಗಳು ಇರುತ್ತಿದ್ದವು ಆದರೆ ಅವೆಲ್ಲ ಮನೆಯೊಳಗಿನವು ಎನ್ನುವಂಥವು. ಬೇಗ ಮರೆತು ಹೋಗುತ್ತಿದ್ದವು ಎಂದು ಹಳೆಯ ಹತ್ತಾರು ನೆನಪುಗಳನ್ನು ಮೆಲುಕುಹಾಕಿದರು.

ದೈಹಿಕವಾಗಿ ಸಾಕಷ್ಟು ಕೃಶರಾಗಿರುವ "ಪಿ.ಆರ್.ವಿ" ಅವರಲ್ಲಿನ ಉತ್ಸಾಹ ಮಾತ್ರ ಕಡಿಮೆ ಆಗಿಲ್ಲ. ಗೆಳೆಯರು ಬಂದರೆ ಸಾಕು ಒಂದಿಷ್ಟು ಹೊತ್ತು ಮಾತನಾಡಬಹುದಲ್ಲ ಎನ್ನುವ ಸಂಭ್ರಮ ಅವರದ್ದು. ಮಾತಿನ ನಡುವೆ ಎಂ.ಎ.ಪೊನ್ನಪ್ಪ, ಆರ್.ಕೌಶಿಕ್, ರವಿ ಚಕ್ರವತರ್ಿ... ಹೀಗೆ ಎಲ್ಲರನ್ನೂ ನೆನಪಿಸಿಕೊಂಡರು. ಬೇರೆ ಬೇರೆ ಪತ್ರಿಕೆಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಈಗ ಕ್ರೀಡಾ ವಿಭಾಗದಲ್ಲಿ ಯಾರ್ಯಾರು ಇದ್ದಾರೆ ಹೇಗಿದೆ ವಾತಾವರಣ ಎಂದೆಲ್ಲ ಆಸಕ್ತಿಯಿಂದ ಕೇಳಿ ತಿಳಿದುಕೊಂಡರು.

ತಾವು ಕೆಲವು ಸಮಯದಿಂದ ಹಾಸಿಗೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಇರುವುದಕ್ಕಿಂತ ಹೆಚ್ಚಿನ ಬೇಸರ ಅವರಿಗೆ ಗೆಳೆಯರಿಂದ ದೂರವಾಗಿದ್ದರಿಂದ ಆಗಿದೆ. ಆದ್ದರಿಂದಲೇ ಅವರು "ಆಗಾಗ ನೀವೆಲ್ಲ ಬಂದು ಹೋಗುತ್ತಿರಿ. ನನಗೂ ಒಂದಿಷ್ಟು ಎನಜರ್ಿ ಸಿಕ್ಕಂತೆ ಆಗುತ್ತದೆ" ಎಂದು ಹೇಳಿದರು "ಪಿ.ಆರ್.ವಿ" ಅವರು ಸ್ವ್ಯಾಬ್ ಪರವಾಗಿ ಬಂದಿದ್ದ ಗೋಪಾಲಕೃಷ್ಣ ಹೆಗಡೆ, ಸತೀಶ್ ಪಾಲ್ ಹಾಗೂ ಡಿ.ವಿ.ಗರುಡ ಅವರನ್ನು ಬೀಳ್ಕೊಡುವ ಮುನ್ನ "ನಾನೇ ಗೇಟ್ ವರೆಗೆ ಬಂದು ಬಿಡಬೇಕು ಎನಿಸುತ್ತಿದೆ" ಎಂದು ಹೇಳಿ ನಕ್ಕರು. ಬೇರೆಯವರ ನೆರವಿನೊಂದಿಗೆ ಎದ್ದು ಕುಳಿತುಕೊಳ್ಳುವಂಥ ಸ್ಥಿತಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಇದ್ದರೂ "ಪಿ.ಆರ್.ವಿ" ಎಷ್ಟೊಂದು ಉತ್ಸಾಹವನ್ನು ಕಾಯ್ದುಕೊಂಡಿದ್ದಾರೆ ಎನ್ನುವುದಕ್ಕೆ ಈ ಮಾತೇ ಸಾಕ್ಷಿ!

ಗೆಳೆಯರೆ ನಿಮಗೂ ಯಾವತ್ತಾದರೂ ಬಿಡುವಿನ ಸಮಯ ಇದ್ದರೆ "ಪಿ.ಆರ್.ವಿ" ಅವರ ಮನೆಗೆ ಹೋಗಿ ಒಂದಿಷ್ಟು ಹೊತ್ತು ಮಾತನಾಡಿಕೊಂಡು ಬನ್ನಿ. ಇದರಿಂದ ನಿಮ್ಮ ಜ್ಞಾನಭಂಡಾರ ವೃದ್ಧಿ ಆಗುತ್ತದೆ; ಜೊತೆಗೆ "ಪಿ.ಆರ್.ವಿ" ಅವರಿಗೂ ಒಂದಿಷ್ಟು ಎನರ್ಜಿ ನೀಡಿದಂತೆ ಆಗುತ್ತದೆ.

ಬೆಂಗಳೂರು ಕ್ರೀಡಾ ಬರಹಗಾರರ ಸಂಘದ ಎಲ್ಲ ಸದಸ್ಯ ಮಿತ್ರರಿಗೆ ನಮಸ್ಕಾರ ಹಾಗೂ ಹೃದಯಪೂರ್ವಕ ಸ್ವಾಗತ. ಸ್ವ್ಯಾಬ್ ಚಟುವಟಿಕೆಗಳಿಗೆ ಬೆಲೆಯುಳ್ಳ ಸಲಹೆಗಳನ್ನು ನೀಡುತ್ತಾ ಬಂದಿರುವ ಮಾಜಿ ಅಧ್ಯಕ್ಷರಾದ ಶ್ರೀ ಕಲ್ಯಾಣ್ ಅಶೋಕ್ ಹಾಗೂ ಶ್ರೀ ಎಂ.ಎ.ಪೊನ್ನಪ್ಪ ಅವರಿಗೆ ವಿಶೇಷವಾಗಿ ಈ ಸಂದರ್ಭದಲ್ಲಿ ಅಭಿನಂದನೆ ಸಲ್ಲಿಸುತ್ತಾ ವಾರ್ಷಿಕ ವರದಿಯನ್ನು ತಮ್ಮ ಮುಂದೆ ಇಡುತ್ತಿದ್ದೇನೆ. ಜೊತೆಗೆ ದಶಕದ ನಂತರ ಬೆಂಗಳೂರಿಗೆ ಹಿಂದಿರುಗಿರುವ ನಮ್ಮೆಲ್ಲರ ಆತ್ಮೀಯರಾದ ಶ್ರೀ ಗೋಪಾಲಕೃಷ್ಣ ಹೆಗಡೆ ಅವರಿಗೆ ಬೆಂಗಳೂರು ಕ್ರೀಡಾ ಬರಹಗಾರರ ಸಂಘದ 2011ನೇ ಸಾಲಿನ ವಾರ್ಷಿಕ ಸರ್ವ ಸದಸ್ಯರ ಸಭೆಗೆ ಸ್ವಾಗತಿಸುತ್ತೇನೆ. ಹೆಗಡೆ ಅವರು ಈ ಹಿಂದೆ ಸ್ವ್ಯಾಬ್ ಚಟುವಟಿಕೆಗಳ ಜೀವನಾಡಿ ಆಗಿದ್ದವರು. ಅವರು ಮತ್ತೆ ನಮ್ಮೊಂದಿಗೆ ಇದ್ದಾರೆ. ಅವರು ಈ ಹಿಂದೆ ಸ್ವ್ಯಾಬ್ ಗಾಗಿ ಮಾಡಿದ ಕೆಲಸಗಳು ನಮಗೆ ಈಗಲೂ ಪ್ರೇರಣೆ.

2011ನೇ ಸಾಲು ಬೆಂಗಳೂರು ಕ್ರೀಡಾ ಬರಹಗಾರರ ಸಂಘದ 35ನೇ ಸ್ಥಾಪನಾ ವರ್ಷವಾಗಿದೆ. ಆದ್ದರಿಂದ ಈ ವರ್ಷವನ್ನು ವಿಶಿಷ್ಟವಾದ ಚಟುವಟಿಕೆಗಳಿಂದ ಅಲಂಕರಿಸಬೇಕು ಎನ್ನುವುದು ನಮ್ಮ ಉದ್ದೇಶ. ಆ ನಿಟ್ಟಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಈಗಾಗಲೇ ಹಲವಾರು ಚಟುವಟಿಕೆಗಳನ್ನು ನಾವು ಎಲ್ಲ ಕಾರ್ಯಕಾರಿ ಸಮಿತಿ ಸದಸ್ಯರ ಸಹಕಾರದಿಂದ ಮಾಡಿದ್ದೇವೆ. ನನ್ನೊಂದಿಗೆ ಉತ್ಸಾಹದಿಂದ ಕೈಜೋಡಿಸಿ, ಪ್ರೋತ್ಸಾಹ ನೀಡುತ್ತಾ, ಎಲ್ಲ ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮ ನಡೆಸಲು ಹುಮ್ಮಸ್ಸು ನೀಡಿದ ಎಲ್ಲ ಕಾರ್ಯಕಾರಿ ಸಮಿತಿ ಸದಸ್ಯರಿಗೆ ನಾನು ಕೃತಜ್ಞನಾಗಿದ್ದೇನೆ. ಜೊತೆಗೆ ರೂಪಿಸಿದೆಲ್ಲ ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಪಾಲ್ಗೊಂಡು ಉತ್ಸಾಹ ಹೆಚ್ಚಿಸಿದ ಎಲ್ಲ ಸದಸ್ಯರಿಗೂ ನಾನು ಧನ್ಯವಾದ ಹೇಳುತ್ತೇನೆ.

ಸ್ವ್ಯಾಬ್ ಎನ್ನುವುದು ವರ್ಷಕ್ಕೊಮ್ಮೆ ಪ್ರಶಸ್ತಿ ನೀಡುವ ವೇದಿಕೆಯಾಗಿ ಮಾತ್ರ ಉಳಿಯಬಾರದು ಎನ್ನುವುದು ಕಾರ್ಯಕಾರಿ ಸಮಿತಿ ಆಶಯ. ಆದ್ದರಿಂದ ಸದಸ್ಯರಿಗೆ ಪ್ರಯೋಜನವಾಗುವಂಥ ಹಾಗೂ ಸದಸ್ಯರು ಸಕ್ರಿಯವಾಗಿ ಪಾಲ್ಗೊಳ್ಳುವುದಕ್ಕೆ ಸಾಧ್ಯವಾಗುವಂಥ ಹೆಚ್ಚು ಹೆಚ್ಚು ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮಗಳನ್ನು ಆಯೋಜಿಸುವುದು ಕಾರ್ಯಕಾರಿ ಸಮಿತಿ ಉದ್ದೇಶ. ಆ ನಿಟ್ಟಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಈ ವರ್ಷ ಹಲವಾರು ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮಗಳನ್ನು ಸ್ವ್ಯಾಬ್ ವಿವಿಧ ಸಂಘ-ಸಂಸ್ಥೆಗಳ ನೆರವಿನೊಂದಿಗೆ ಮಾಡಿದೆ.

ವರ್ಷದ ಆರಂಭದಲ್ಲಿಯೇ ಕರ್ನಾಟಕ ಲೆಗ್ ಕ್ರಿಕೆಟ್ ಸಂಸ್ಥೆ ಆಶ್ರಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಕ್ರೀಡಾ ಶಿಕ್ಷಕರೊಂದಿಗೆ ನಮ್ಮ ಕ್ರೀಡಾ ವರದಿಗಾರರು ವಿಶಿಷ್ಟವಾದ ಲೆಗ್ ಕ್ರಿಕೆಟ್ ಪಂದ್ಯವನ್ನು ಆಡಿ ಸಂತಸಪಟ್ಟಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ವಿಶೇಷವೆಂದರೆ ಕ್ರೀಡಾ ಪತ್ರಕರ್ತರ ತಂಡವೇ ಆ ಪಂದ್ಯದಲ್ಲಿ ವಿಜಯ ಸಾಧಿಸಿತು. ಆನಂತರ ಕರ್ನಾಟಕ ರಾಜ್ಯ ಫುಟ್ ಬಾಲ್ ಸಂಸ್ಥೆಯ ಸಹಕಾರದೊಂದಿಗೆ ಮಾಜಿ ಫುಟ್ ಬಾಲ್ ಆಟಗಾರರ ಜೊತೆಗೆ ಫುಟ್ ಬಾಲ್ ಪ್ರದರ್ಶನ ಪಂದ್ಯವನ್ನು ಕೂಡ ನಮ್ಮ ಕ್ರೀಡಾ ವರದಿಗಾರರ ತಂಡ ಆಡಿತು. ಈ ಪಂದ್ಯವನ್ನು ಸಂಘಟಿಸುವಲ್ಲಿ ಶ್ರೀಕುಮಾರ್ ಅವರು ತೋರಿದ ಆಸಕ್ತಿಯನ್ನು ಈ ಸಂದರ್ಭದಲ್ಲಿ ಸ್ಮರಿಸುವುದು ನನ್ನ ಕರ್ತವ್ಯ.

ಭಾರಿ ಉತ್ಸಾಹದಿಂದ ನಡೆದ ಸ್ವ್ಯಾಬ್ ಸ್ನೂಕರ್ ಟೂರ್ನಿಯನ್ನು ಬೆಂಗಳೂರು ವಿಹಾರ ಕೇಂದ್ರ ಹಾಗೂ ಕದಿರೇನಹಳ್ಳಿ ಸ್ನೂಕರ್ ಪಾಯಿಂಟ್ ಸಹಯೋಗದಲ್ಲಿ ನಡೆಸಲಾಯಿತು. ಅದರಲ್ಲಿ ಮೂವತ್ತಕ್ಕೂ ಹೆಚ್ಚು ಕ್ರೀಡಾ ವರದಿಗಾರರು ಹಾಗೂ ಕ್ರೀಡಾ ಛಾಯಾಗ್ರಾಹಕರು ಹಾಗೂ ಮಾಧ್ಯಮ ವರದಿಗಾರರು ಪಾಲ್ಗೊಂಡು ಸಂತಸ ಹಂಚಿಕೊಂಡರು. ಆರ್. ಸತ್ಯ ಅವರು ಈ ಟೂರ್ನಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ತಮ್ಮ ಪ್ರಭಾವಿ ಆಟದಿಂದ ಚಾಂಪಿಯನ್ ಆಗಿ ಹೊರಹೊಮ್ಮಿದರು. ಆರ್. ಸತ್ಯ ಅವರು ಪುಣೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ನಡೆದ ಎಸ್.ಜೆ.ಎಫ್.ಐ ವಾರ್ಷಿಕ ಸಮಾವೇಶದಲ್ಲಿ ಪಾಲ್ಗೊಂಡು, ಅದರ ಅಂಗವಾಗಿ ನಡೆದ ಕ್ರೀಡಾ ಚಟುವಟಿಕೆಗಳಲ್ಲಿಯೂ ಉತ್ತಮ ಪ್ರದರ್ಶನ ನೀಡಿ ಪ್ರಶಸ್ತಿ ಕೂಡ ಗೆದ್ದು ಗಮನ ಸೆಳೆದಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಮಲ್ಲಿಕಾಚರಣ ವಾಡಿ, ಅಭಿಷೇಕ್ ಬಾಡ್ಕರ್, ಸತೀಶ್ ವಿಶ್ವನಾಥ್, ಸತೀಶ್ ಪಾಲ್, ಮೊಹಮ್ಮದ್ ನೂಮಾನ್ ಹಾಗೂ ಓಂಕಾರ ಮೂತರ್ಿ ಅವರೂ ಎಸ್.ಜೆ.ಎಫ್.ಐ ವಾರ್ಷಿಕ ಸಮಾವೇಶದಲ್ಲಿ ಬೆಂಗಳೂರು ಕ್ರೀಡಾ ವರದಿಗಾರರ ಸಂಘವನ್ನು ಪ್ರತಿನಿಧಿಸಿದ್ದರು.

ಕಳೆದ ಬಾರಿಯ ವಾರ್ಷಿಕ ಸರ್ವಸದಸ್ಯರ ಸಭೆಗೆ ಮುನ್ನ ನಾನು ನೀಡಿದ್ದ ಭರವಸೆಯಂತೆ ಹಲವಾರು ಕೆಲಸಗಳನ್ನು ಪೂರೈಸುವ ಪ್ರಯತ್ನವನ್ನು ಕಾರ್ಯಕಾರಿ ಸಮಿತಿಯ ಸಹಕಾರದಿಂದ ಮಾಡಿ ಮುಗಿಸಲು ಪ್ರಯತ್ನ ಮಾಡಿದ್ದೇನೆ. ಸ್ವ್ಯಾಬ್ ಸದಸ್ಯರಿಗೆ ಆಕರ್ಷಕವಾದ ಸದಸ್ಯತ್ವದ ಕಾರ್ಡ್ ನೀಡಲಾಗಿದೆ. ಅದರ ಜೊತೆಗೆ ಪ್ರೇಮಾ ಡೇವಿಡ್ ಅವರು ಕೊಡುಗೆಯಾಗಿ ನೀಡಿದ ಕಾರ್ಡ್ ಹೋಲ್ಡರ್ ಕೂಡ ನೀಡಲಾಗಿದೆ. ಒಟ್ಟು 37 ಸದಸ್ಯರು ತಮ್ಮ ಸದಸ್ಯತ್ವದ ಫಾರ್ಮ್ ನೀಡಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಇನ್ನೂ ಅನೇಕ ಸದಸ್ಯರು ಸದಸ್ಯತ್ವದ ಫಾರ್ಮ್ ನೀಡಿಲ್ಲ. ಅವರು ಕೂಡ ಸದಸ್ಯತ್ವದ ಫಾರ್ಮ್ ನೀಡಿ, ತಮ್ಮ ಸದಸ್ಯತ್ವದ ಕಾರ್ಡ್ ಪಡೆದುಕೊಳ್ಳಬೇಕಾಗಿ ಈ ಸಂದರ್ಭದಲ್ಲಿ ನಾನು ಕೇಳಿಕೊಳ್ಳುತ್ತೇನೆ.

ಸ್ವ್ಯಾಬ್ ಗಾಗಿ ಕಂಠೀರವ ಕ್ರೀಡಾಂಗಣದಲ್ಲಿ ಕೋಣೆಯೊಂದನ್ನು ಪಡೆಯುವುದು ಉದ್ದೇಶವಾಗಿತ್ತು. ಈ ವಿಷಯವಾಗಿ ಮುಖ್ಯಮಂತ್ರಿಗಳು ಹಾಗೂ ಕ್ರೀಡಾ ಸಚಿವರಿಗೆ ವಿನಂತಿಯನ್ನು ನೀಡಲಾಗಿತ್ತು. ಎಂ.ಎ.ಪೊನ್ನಪ್ಪ ಅವರ ಪ್ರಯತ್ನದ ಫಲವಾಗಿ ಕೋಣೆ ಸ್ವ್ಯಾಬ್ಗೆ ಸಿಗುವ ಹಂತದಲ್ಲಿ ಇದ್ದಾಗಲೇ, ತೊಡಕು ಎದುರಾಯಿತು. ಆದರೂ ಮತ್ತೆ ಎಂ.ಎ.ಪೊನ್ನಪ್ಪ ಅವರ ಬೆಂಬಲದೊಂದಿಗೆ ಕೋಣೆಯನ್ನು ಪಡೆಯಲು ಪ್ರಯತ್ನ ಮಾಡುತ್ತೇವೆ ಎನ್ನುವ ಭರವಸೆಯನ್ನು ಕಾರ್ಯಕಾರಿ ಸಮಿತಿ ಪರವಾಗಿ ತಮಗೆ ನೀಡುತ್ತೇನೆ.

ಬೃಹತ್ ಬೆಂಗಳೂರು ಮಹಾನಗರ ಪಾಲಿಕೆಯು ಸ್ವ್ಯಾಬ್ ತನ್ನದೇ ಆದ ಕ್ಲಬ್ ಹೊಂದುವುದಕ್ಕೆ ಅಗತ್ಯವಿರುವ "ಸಿಎ" ಸೈಟ್ವೊಂದನ್ನು ನೀಡುವುದಕ್ಕೆ ಸಿದ್ಧವಿದೆ. ಅದಕ್ಕಾಗಿ ಮೂರು ಸ್ಥಳಗಳನ್ನು ಈಗಾಗಲೇ ತೋರಿಸಿದೆ. ಆದರೆ ಅವೆಲ್ಲವೂ ಬೆಂಗಳೂರು ಕೇಂದ್ರ ಭಾಗದಿಂದ ಬಹಳ ದೂರದಲ್ಲಿವೆ. ಆದ್ದರಿಂದ ತಮ್ಮ ಗಮನಕ್ಕೆ ಬೆಂಗಳೂರು ಕೇಂದ್ರ ಭಾಗದಲ್ಲಿ ಯಾವುದಾದರೂ ಖಾಲಿ "ಸಿಎ" ಸೈಟ್ ಗಮನಕ್ಕೆ ಬಂದರೆ ಅಲ್ಲಿ ಸ್ವ್ಯಾಬ್ ಕ್ಲಬ್ ಸ್ಥಾಪಿಸಲು ಅಗತ್ಯವಾದ ಪ್ರಕ್ರಿಯೆ ನಡೆಸಬಹುದು.

ಮುಂಬೈ, ಕೋಲ್ಕತ್ತ, ಚೆನ್ನೈ, ಅಹಮದಾಬಾದ್, ಚಂಡೀಗಡದಲ್ಲಿ ಕ್ರೀಡಾ ಪತ್ರಕರ್ತರಿಗೆ ನೀಡಲಾಗಿರುವ ವಿಶೇಷ ಸರ್ಕಾರಿ ಮಾನ್ಯತಾ ಪತ್ರವು ಬೆಂಗಳೂರಿನ ಕ್ರೀಡಾ ವರದಿಗಾರರಿಗೂ ಲಭ್ಯವಾಗುವಂತೆ ಮಾಡುವುದು ಉದ್ದೇಶವಾಗಿದೆ. ಆ ನಿಟ್ಟಿನಲ್ಲಿ ದಾಖಲೆಗಳನ್ನು ಒಗ್ಗೂಡಿಸಿ, ವಾರ್ತಾ ಮತ್ತು ಪ್ರಚಾರ ಇಲಾಖೆಗೆ ನೀಡಲು ಪ್ರಯತ್ನ ಮಾಡಲಾಗುತ್ತಿದೆ.

2012ರಲ್ಲಿ ಬೆಂಗಳೂರು ಕ್ರೀಡಾ ವರದಿಗಾರರ ಸಂಘವು ಎಸ್.ಜೆ.ಎಫ್.ಐ ವಾರ್ಷಿಕ ಸಮಾವೇಶವನ್ನು ಬೆಂಗಳೂರಿನಲ್ಲಿ ನಡೆಸಲು ಬಯಸಿದೆ. ಅದಕ್ಕಾಗಿ ಬಿಡ್ ಪ್ರಕ್ರಿಯೆಗೆ ತಯಾರಿ ನಡೆದಿದೆ. ಆ ವಿಷಯವಾಗಿ ತಾವೆಲ್ಲರೂ ತಮ್ಮ ಬೆಂಬಲ ಹಾಗೂ ಸಹಕಾರವನ್ನು ನೀಡಬೇಕಾಗಿ ವಿನಂತಿ ಮಾಡುತ್ತಾ ನನ್ನ ಈ ವರದಿಯನ್ನು ಕೊನೆಗೊಳಿಸುತ್ತೇನೆ.
