SOUTH ZONE TRIUMPHS


The South Zone cricket team maintained a clean slate to
win the J.K. Bose T20 tournament.

South Zone won the inter-zonal J.K. Bose Twenty20 cricket tournament, winning its third match at the Sports Authority of Goa (SAG) ground at Campal here on Sunday. South beat North to win the trophy after 12 years.

Abhijit Bhadkar was declared the Man-of-the-Match. West Zone finished runner-up, defeating East Zone at the Panjim Gymkhana ground. South Zone's Satish Viswanathan was declared the Player-of-the-Tournament for his consistent performance with the bat.

Abhijit Kulkarni of the Sports Journalists Association of Mumbai (SJAM) beat R. Kaushik of Sports Writers Association of Bangalore in the men's table tennis final.

Nike, Videocon Mobile Phones and ESPN-STAR Sports sponsored the prizes for cricket, table tennis and penalty kicks.

The scores: North Zone 140 for nine in 20 overs (S. Saxena 38 not out, Mallikacharan three for 31, Abhijit Bhadkar two for 25) lost to South Zone 141 for two in 19 overs (Satish Viswanathan 53).

East Zone 102 in 19.5 overs (T. Talukdar 31, A. Kulkarni two for 15, Rahul Dixit two for 23, S. Mayure two for 11) lost to West Zone 103 for five in 10.5 overs (D. Pandey 23, S. Barua three for 37).
